Value of SK Group's listed firms exceeds W2000 trillion
SK Group’s listed firms have collectively surpassed a market valuation of 2,000 trillion won (approximately $1.3 trillion) for the first time. This significant milestone was largely driven by the robust performance of its memory chip manufacturing arm, SK Hynix Inc., whose shares surged by 4.11 percent. SK Hynix now accounts for over 84 percent of the conglomerate’s total market capitalization, reaching 1,697 trillion won. This achievement highlights the increasing influence of semiconductor companies within South Korea’s major business groups, even as Samsung Group maintains a larger overall market value.
This development underscores the critical role of the semiconductor industry in driving economic growth and market valuations within South Korea’s tech ecosystem. SK Hynix’s substantial contribution to SK Group’s overall market cap reflects the global demand for memory chips, particularly in the context of advancements in AI and data centers. The surge in SK Hynix’s value indicates a strong investor confidence in the future of semiconductor technology and its applications across various sectors, positioning South Korea at the forefront of this technological wave.
For Asia’s tech landscape, this trend signifies a broader shift towards high-value, specialized manufacturing. As global supply chains continue to evolve, the resilience and innovation of companies like SK Hynix become crucial. This also highlights the intense competition among South Korean conglomerates, with Samsung Group’s even larger market value demonstrating the scale of the country’s tech giants and their impact on regional and global markets. The focus on advanced technology, especially AI-enabling hardware, will likely continue to shape investment and strategic decisions across the continent.
