Singapore banks up AI game in apps with expenses tracking for retail customers

Singaporean banks are enhancing their mobile applications with new AI features for retail customers. Trust Bank launched an AI chatbot, Trust AI Ask, on September 8, allowing users to query transaction history conversationally. DBS Bank plans to roll out similar AI capabilities from November, enabling customers to check refunds, reward points, and manage cards via a digibot. OCBC Bank, which introduced its AI-powered OCBC WoW app in July for wealth management, will also test an AI digital companion for retail banking customers from late 2026. These developments reflect a broader push by local financial institutions to automate customer service and improve user experience through advanced AI.

    Nexa's Summary

Singapore's major banks are integrating AI into their retail banking apps, moving beyond basic chatbots to offer more sophisticated, conversational features. Trust Bank's new AI Ask allows customers to query spending patterns and transaction details using natural language. This is a clear step toward more intuitive banking, addressing a common pain point of navigating complex menus. DBS will follow with its own AI digibot in November, expanding capabilities to include card management and wealth queries. OCBC's plans for an AI digital companion by late 2026 suggest a longer-term vision for personalized insights. While these features offer convenience and potential cost savings for banks, the core functionality of spend tracking and investment nudges has existed since UOB's Mighty app in 2019. The real shift is in the interaction model, making these tools more accessible through conversational AI.
