Shinsegae I&C to Distribute Meta's New AI Glasses in Korea
Shinsegae I&C will distribute Meta's new AI eyewear line in South Korea, including the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta and a Blackpink Lisa collaboration model. The partnership with EssilorLuxottica brings 21 products across nine models to the South Korean market. The Lisa collaboration models, based on Meta Adventurer and Meta Capri, will retail for 640,000 won. Sales will occur at Electro Mart, Lotte Hi-Mart, SSG.com, and online malls for SK Telecom and KT.
Meta's push into South Korea with AI glasses reflects a broader strategy to embed its hardware in key Asian consumer markets. The collaboration with Blackpink's Lisa, a global K-pop icon, is a clear play for youth culture adoption. Pricing the Lisa models at 640,000 won positions them as a premium lifestyle accessory, not a mass-market device.
Shinsegae I&C's distribution across major retail channels like Electro Mart and Lotte Hi-Mart gives Meta immediate, wide access. This bypasses the typical slow build-out for new hardware. For South Korean consumers, it means early access to Meta's AI-powered wearables, potentially driving adoption faster than in other regions.
The test for Meta is whether celebrity endorsement translates into sustained sales beyond initial hype. South Korea's tech-savvy consumer base is quick to adopt but also quick to discard. If these glasses do not deliver clear, daily utility, the 640,000 won price tag will become a barrier for many within 12 months.
