People’s Association to launch bite-sized AI courses for seniors and homemakers unfamiliar with tech

Singapore's People's Association (PA) is launching "AI @ Your Neighbourhood" courses from November 2026, offering beginner-friendly, affordable AI education for seniors and homemakers. The program aims to reach 10,000 residents, covering topics from daily digital skills to AI-assisted travel, with courses priced at S$10 (US$7.80) and a 30% discount for the first year.

    Nexa's Summary

The People's Association's initiative addresses a common barrier to AI adoption: the accessibility of training for non-professionals. By focusing on seniors and homemakers with bite-sized, affordable courses, PA is attempting to broaden AI literacy beyond the typical tech-savvy demographic. This approach recognizes that the benefits of AI extend beyond specialized professional applications and into everyday life, from photo enhancement to travel planning.

Beyond direct instruction, PA is also integrating AI into its own operations and public services. The planned AI Voice Assistant for onePA, expected by early 2027, and the PA Community Robot, piloted in Q1 2027, aim to streamline resident interactions, program discovery, and administrative tasks. This dual strategy of educating the public while simultaneously deploying AI for internal efficiencies suggests a comprehensive effort to normalize AI use and demonstrate its practical benefits within the community.

The emphasis on using AI to take away manual and administrative work for staff and volunteers highlights a strategic goal to free up human resources for more direct engagement. As PA Deputy Chairman Edwin Tong stated, this allows staff and volunteers to focus on "nurturing the human connection, empathy and care for our resident." This reflects an understanding that AI's value in community work may lie not in replacing human connection, but in enabling it by offloading routine tasks. The collaboration with partners like AI Singapore and Micron Technology suggests a multi-stakeholder approach to developing and delivering these AI capabilities.
