ONERugged Launches VPC Series Vehicle Tablets to Power Next-Gen Bus Transportation & Fleet Management
ONERugged, a provider of rugged computing solutions based in Shenzhen, China, has announced the availability of its VPC Series rugged tablets. These devices are designed for bus transportation and fleet management, aiming to replace consumer-grade hardware in public transit. The series unifies cashless ticketing, real-time fleet dispatch, and advanced driver-assistance monitoring on a single device.
Consumer-grade tablets often prove inadequate for the demanding conditions of public transit environments, according to ONERugged. The company states that constant vibration, extreme temperature swings, and issues with cluttered cabling and limited interfaces contribute to increased downtime, higher maintenance costs, and compromised passenger service. This often forces operators to use multiple stacked devices to achieve necessary functionalities.
The VPC Series aims to address these operational challenges by offering purpose-built vehicle tablets. Running on Android and Windows, these devices function as centralized in-vehicle hubs. They provide native support for various industrial connectors, including RJ45, RS232, RS485, USB, CAN bus, AHD, and GPIO, enabling the consolidation of multiple systems into a single, integrated unit designed to withstand harsh conditions.
The tablets are engineered to streamline cashless ticketing by connecting to NFC readers, barcode scanners, and ticket printers, allowing passengers to pay via contactless methods and receive instant receipts. For fleet management, the VPC Series leverages 4G networks and multi-satellite GNSS for continuous communication, providing dispatchers with real-time vehicle location and status updates, facilitating paperless instructions, and replacing older radio and printed manifest systems.
