    Mercedes-Benz Q3 Global Passenger-Car Sales Fall 8%, China Sales Drop 31%

Mercedes-Benz Group reported an 8% decline in global passenger-car sales for the third quarter, totaling 407,200 units, primarily driven by a 31% drop in China. This downturn in China impacted the brand's broader Asian passenger-car volume, which fell by 25%. However, global battery-electric vehicle deliveries surged 61% year-on-year, reaching 68,400 units.

    Nexa's Summary

The substantial decline in Mercedes-Benz's China passenger-car sales, particularly within the premium segment, indicates a challenging market environment and heightened competition. While the GLC and E-Class models reportedly held steady, and the electric GLC L is gaining traction, the overall contraction suggests that even established premium brands are navigating significant pressures in the region.

Despite the struggles in China, Mercedes-Benz saw growth in other key markets. US passenger-car deliveries increased by 6% to 75,300 units in the third quarter, while European sales rose 5% to 168,700 units, fueled by 13% growth in Germany and a 7% uptick in the UK. This regional divergence suggests that market conditions and consumer preferences are not uniform globally, allowing for growth in certain areas even amidst a major setback in another.

A notable development is the strong performance of Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle (EV) segment. Battery-electric passenger-car deliveries reached an all-time quarterly high, accounting for a record 16.8% of global passenger-car sales. The electric GLC's volume more than tripled compared with the second quarter, and Mathias Geisen, a board member, noted that European allocation for several electric models through the rest of 2026 is already sold out, with orders extending into 2027.
