LG Electronics Lands Multitrillion-Won AI Data Center Chiller Deal
LG Electronics has secured a long-term contract to supply high-efficiency chillers for 5 gigawatts of U.S. artificial intelligence data center capacity. Industry estimates suggest the deal, with North American infrastructure platform AIR Control Concept, is valued at up to 2.5 trillion won ($1.8 billion) over a three-to-five-year term, according to industry sources.
This agreement shifts LG Electronics' engagement in the data center cooling market from individual project bids to a multi-year supply commitment. The move reflects an industry trend where rising power demands from AI servers are making cooling equipment a critical long-term infrastructure component, prompting operators to seek stable supply chains rather than one-off purchases.
The contract's structure provides LG Electronics with revenue visibility and locked-in volume, which is relevant as competition for core data center equipment intensifies amid surging AI data center construction. For data center operators like AIR Control Concept, securing a consistent supply of high-efficiency chillers helps mitigate procurement risks and ensures operational continuity.
Beyond chillers, LG Electronics is exploring expansion into liquid cooling systems, specifically discussing the addition of coolant distribution units (CDUs) to the contract. The increasing heat generated by high-performance graphics processing units is pushing conventional air cooling to its limits, driving demand for integrated liquid cooling solutions that combine chillers, CDUs, and cold plates. If CDUs are added, the business scale could exceed current estimates.
