KT Cloud to Build Gunsan AI Data Center With Full Liquid Cooling by 2028
KT Cloud will design, build, and operate Korea's first fully liquid-cooled AI data center in Gunsan. The facility, led by SGC Energy, will begin construction late this year. It targets a Q1 2028 operational start with an initial 60 MW capacity. The Gunsan center will expand to 300 MW and support next-generation AI accelerators like Nvidia's Vera Rubin.
Korea's first fully liquid-cooled AI data center is a necessary step for high-density AI compute. The Gunsan facility's design for Nvidia's Vera Rubin accelerators shows KT Cloud's focus on future-proofing infrastructure. Liquid cooling is critical for managing the high heat output of advanced AI chips. This development reflects a broader trend toward specialized data center designs for AI workloads.
The project positions KT Cloud to expand its AI data center supply outside greater Seoul. Its plan to reach 1 gigawatt by 2031 is ambitious. This regional expansion could ease the concentration of AI infrastructure in the capital. It also provides a blueprint for other Korean operators to follow, diversifying the national AI compute footprint.
The thing to watch is the actual deployment schedule and performance of the modular liquid-cooling solution. KT Cloud claims a 50% reduction in construction time. Delivering on this promise by the Q1 2028 target will validate the modular approach for large-scale AI data centers.
