Kimi K3 enters OpenAI’s enterprise Codex channel and billing system
Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 model is now accessible to enterprise customers through OpenAI’s enterprise Codex channel, facilitated by US inference provider Baseten. This allows companies to count their Kimi K3 usage against existing OpenAI spending commitments, an arrangement Sina Finance described as the first time a Chinese open model has entered OpenAI’s enterprise billing system.
The integration of Kimi K3 into OpenAI’s enterprise Codex channel addresses a practical hurdle for companies adopting new AI models. By allowing customers to use Kimi K3 under an existing OpenAI agreement, the arrangement streamlines the administrative process, as it avoids the need for a separate supplier contract for the Chinese model.
This setup provides a direct benefit for enterprise customers, who can explore Kimi K3 without altering their established procurement workflows or adding a new vendor to their approved list. The ability to offset Kimi K3 usage against existing OpenAI spending commitments could make trialing or adopting the model more financially straightforward, as it leverages pre-allocated budgets rather than requiring new expenditures.
The arrangement highlights a mechanism for integrating diverse AI models into enterprise systems. Baseten provides the model inference, while Codex offers the developer interface, separating the model's origin from the operational and billing channels. This layered approach could simplify how companies access and manage a broader portfolio of AI capabilities.
