Govt launches framework to prepare communications, multimedia workforce for AI-driven changes
Malaysia’s federal government has launched the Communications and Multimedia Future Skills Framework (C&M FSF) to prepare the workforce for changes driven by artificial intelligence and digitalization. Led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the framework will guide talent development in the communications and multimedia sector over the next five to 10 years.
The C&M FSF aims to align industry needs with education and skills development, involving the Higher Education and Human Resources ministries. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that AI is already reshaping jobs in areas like advertising and graphic design by accelerating work processes and automating certain tasks.
The framework is designed as a guideline rather than a regulatory measure, focusing on workforce needs and the long-term impact of AI adoption across sectors under MCMC’s purview, including broadcasting, telecommunications, and postal and courier services. Its implementation will also see the establishment of a Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC) under the Human Resources Ministry, created in collaboration with the Communications Ministry through MCMC, to help ensure the C&M FSF meets actual industry demands.
For the Higher Education Ministry, the C&M FSF will inform curriculum adjustments, micro-credential programs, and graduate competencies. Training and upskilling initiatives will be adapted to evolving technology and job market demands, reflecting the government's effort to prepare Malaysians with future-ready skills and ensure job opportunities, particularly for young Malaysians, as the job landscape changes.
