Gemini Overlay Gets a Sparkling New Look on All Android Phones

Google is making a visual update to its Gemini AI overlay available across all Android phones, extending a design previously exclusive to Pixel 11 devices. This change, which comes through a Google app update, introduces the “Neural Expressive design” to the animation that appears when users activate Gemini. The underlying AI capabilities of Gemini are not altered by this interface update.

The updated overlay is described by Android Authority as having an “ethereal look,” characterized by sparkling effects, tiny dots, and glowing particles around the “Ask Gemini” text box, alongside a refreshed input area. To receive this new animation, users need to ensure their Google app is updated to the latest version from the Play Store. If the animation does not appear immediately, force-stopping the Google app may resolve it, acknowledging Google's practice of staged feature rollouts.

Google's “Neural Expressive” design, which features fluid animations and vibrant colors, was initially unveiled earlier this year. This latest visual adjustment for Gemini aligns with Google's ongoing efforts to refine the appearance of its products. Android Authority notes that Google frequently redesigns elements, with Gemini's interface being a common target for such adjustments over several months.
