From Keralam with love, a biography of Soviet WW-II hero Marshal Zhukov to be out soon
An English biography of Soviet World War II hero Marshal Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov is forthcoming, authored by India's Ratheesh C. Nair with assistance from Zhukov’s great-granddaughter, Varvara Erokhina. The International Russophile Movement will publish the book, timed to coincide with Zhukov’s 130th birth anniversary on December 1, 2026, The Hindu reported.
The upcoming biography of Marshal Zhukov stands out due to its distinctive authorship, combining an Indian perspective with direct familial insight. Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia in Thiruvananthapuram, is writing the book with the help of Varvara Erokhina, Zhukov’s great-granddaughter and Deputy Director at Moscow's Victory Museum. This collaboration offers a blend of external interpretation and intimate, institutional understanding.
Ms. Erokhina emphasizes a commitment to historical accuracy, expressing a desire for her great-grandfather to be depicted "exactly the way he was, without falsification of his story." This aligns with Mr. Nair's view that the book holds contemporary relevance, given ongoing re-interpretations of World War II history, particularly concerning the Soviet role in ending the war in Europe.
The book's publication by the International Russophile Movement is timed to coincide with Zhukov’s 130th birth anniversary celebrations, planned by Moscow’s Victory Museum. This suggests the biography is positioned within broader commemorative efforts, potentially serving a role in cultural diplomacy by promoting Russian historical figures and narratives internationally.
