Former Plaud exec raises $26M for AI app that listens to you in the background

Ambi, an AI app founded by former Plaud executive Peter Mo, has raised $26 million across multiple funding rounds led by Luminous Ventures and Huaqin. The app aims to provide real-time intelligence by continuously listening to users and is releasing apps for iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watch.

    Nexa's Summary

Ambi's core proposition is to deliver proactive AI assistance by continuously processing user data from calendars, meetings, knowledge bases, and web activity. This approach aims to provide insights during ongoing tasks, such as meetings, which differs from systems that require recording transfers and cloud processing before generating intelligence.

The model of constant data capture raises privacy and security concerns. While Ambi's CEO, Peter Mo, stated that ambient data capture can be turned off and is off by default, the company places the onus on users to inform others about the recording. Mo described this as an industry-wide problem that current solutions do not fully address, particularly if users intentionally conceal the capture.

Ambi plans to expand its data capture capabilities with an upcoming desktop app designed to observe user work and store relevant information. The company also intends to launch a dedicated hardware device, featuring a screen, speaker, camera, and microphones, to further integrate continuous context capture and information display into users' environments.
