EVE NET Turns Spare Smartphone Capacity Into An AI Cloud
Mumbai-based startup EVE NET aims to reduce AI computing costs by leveraging unused smartphone capacity through its EVE Box, which connects devices into a shared network. Co-founder and CEO Jash Jetly highlights the goal of making AI freely accessible, likening current AI computing expenses to early internet data storage costs.
EVE NET's core architecture is its "orchestration technology," which distributes AI workloads and data across a network of smartphones. This system dynamically assigns portions of an AI model or data based on each device's available resources, such as RAM and storage. It monitors the network, redistributing tasks and data when devices join, leave, or experience low battery, ensuring continuous operation without overloading individual phones.
A key aspect of this distributed approach is data security and integrity. EVE NET splits files into hundreds of small, encrypted fragments, spreading them across various phones in the network. This means no single device holds a complete, usable file, enhancing security against interception. The system also maintains redundancy, with copies of fragments held on other devices, allowing files to be rebuilt even if a phone is lost or damaged.
The company reports ₹600,000 in revenue during its first three months of operations, projected to reach ₹2.4 million by year-end. This revenue primarily comes from deployments at two construction sites and three universities, each utilizing multiple EVE Boxes. While the company outsources manufacturing of its EVE Boxes, sourcing components from Japan and China, it remains bootstrapped and was founded only months ago.
