Economy in boom mode for 10th month, NDC says

Taiwan's economy has experienced a boom for a tenth consecutive month, driven by sustained demand for artificial intelligence hardware, the National Development Council (NDC) reported. The NDC's monitoring indicator reached 41 last month, marking the longest such streak since 1984, reflecting what the council describes as a structural shift fueled by AI investment.

The ongoing economic boom in Taiwan, attributed primarily to AI hardware demand, is reportedly extending beyond major semiconductor manufacturers. The National Development Council indicates that Taiwan's integrated supply chain, which includes an extensive network of suppliers, is helping to distribute these gains. This structure reportedly gives Taiwan an advantage over economies that rely more heavily on a few large manufacturers, such as South Korea.

Expansions by major technology companies in Taiwan are boosting business for small and medium-sized enterprises, suggesting a broader economic impact. The AI boom is also creating opportunities for industries traditionally considered outside the high-tech core. For example, there is increased demand for materials vital to electronics manufacturing, including copper foil, circuit-board substrates, and specialty chemicals.

Furthermore, the growth extends to machinery and conventional industrial equipment. Taiwanese companies expanding their production operations overseas are driving demand for these items, supporting exports from these sectors. This suggests that the AI-driven economic momentum is fostering growth across various parts of Taiwan's manufacturing and supply chain infrastructure, rather than being isolated to a narrow segment.
