BYD Yangwang Altior debuts with Rolls-Royce-style coach doors and 5.5-metre body
BYD's luxury brand Yangwang has unveiled the Altior, an ultra-luxury electric sedan, at a global debut event in Abu Dhabi. Available for pre-order in China at 2,080,000 yuan (~311,540 USD), the Altior features rear-hinged coach doors, a four-seat luxury cabin, and is positioned to compete with models like the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
The Altior integrates traditional luxury appointments with advanced design elements, aiming to challenge established ultra-luxury sedans. Its exterior includes a large front grille with 137 gemstone-cut elements, a 24K pure gold emblem, and a 4.8-metre hand-painted dual coachline. The cabin features semi-aniline full-grain leather, natural lamb’s wool floor mats, and 60-facet diamond-cut crystal rotary controls. Physically, it measures 5,600 mm long, which is 201 mm longer than a Rolls-Royce Ghost, suggesting a commanding road presence.
Passenger comfort and convenience are central to its design, with rear coach doors opening to 90 degrees and an integrated umbrella holder. The interior boasts zero-gravity, cloud-feel recliners with massage functions and leg rests, a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted screen, and two 5.5-liter built-in refrigerators. A central executive island for rear passengers includes a fold-out business table and a motorized compartment for champagne flutes, complemented by a 39-speaker Dynaudio Platinum Evidence audio system.
Technologically, the Altior is built on BYD’s e⁴ platform with a four-motor electric drivetrain, enabling capabilities like maintaining stability after a high-speed tire blowout, emergency flotation, and tank turns. It uses a second-generation Blade Battery, offering a CLTC range exceeding 1,000 km (estimated 800–820 km WLTP) and supports megawatt-level flash charging through its 1,000V high-voltage architecture. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and BYD’s God’s Eye driver-assistance system support full-scenario point-to-point navigation assistance.
Further enhancing its tech profile, the sedan incorporates BYD’s in-house 4nm Xuanji A3 driving chip and a DiSus suspension system that uses road-surface preview cameras for active damping. While BYD has announced a three-chip configuration exceeding 2,100 TOPS, the article does not specify whether the Altior utilizes this full computing capacity, leaving the full extent of its AI processing power for driver assistance unconfirmed.
