Apple Closes In On World's Most Valuable Company Crown - Iphone Duo Preorders, China AI Rollout In Focus
Apple is approaching Nvidia in market capitalization, reaching nearly $5.1 trillion. This comes as Apple prepares to open preorders for its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, on Friday, with a market release set for October 23. CEO Tim Cook also announced that Apple Intelligence has received regulatory approval in China, with a test version expected later this month.
Apple's stock performance has narrowed the valuation gap with Nvidia, with Apple shares rising over 3.5% in the past five trading sessions. This gain occurred while Nvidia's stock declined by nearly 6%, influenced by concerns over inflation data, neocloud debt loads, and circular financing. Apple's relatively limited spending on AI data center infrastructure also contributed to its resilience during this period.
The company's product strategy includes the upcoming launch of the iPhone Duo and an expansion of its smart-home lineup, featuring the HomeView smart display, an updated Apple TV 4K, and a second-generation HomePod mini. These product introductions coincide with a significant regulatory development in China, where Apple Intelligence has received approval.
While regulatory approval for Apple Intelligence in China removes a major hurdle for its AI ambitions in a key market, the company has not yet confirmed a broader commercial rollout date. A test version is expected in October, suggesting that the full market impact of these AI features in China is still prospective.
