Anthropic Signs $13.7 Billion RUM Group Compute Deal as AI Infrastructure Race Accelerates
Anthropic signed a six-year computing agreement with RUM Group worth approximately $13.7 billion. The deal provides Anthropic with access to GPUs and related services from RUM Group’s Maysville, Georgia data center. RUM Group, known for its Rumble video platform and connections to President Donald Trump’s political ecosystem, will develop the facility and acquire necessary GPUs. The contract also includes a warrant for Anthropic to purchase up to 50.8 million RUM Group Class A shares at $0.01 per share.
The $13.7 billion Anthropic-RUM Group deal is not a guaranteed cash influx for RUM. The headline figure depends on RUM developing a new facility, acquiring substantial GPUs, and raising capital. Anthropic’s obligation for the third tranche is conditional on RUM’s proposed delivery schedule. This structure shifts significant execution risk to RUM Group, despite the large contract value.
For Asia, this deal reflects the intense competition for AI compute. Asian AI developers, like those in South Korea or Singapore, face similar pressures to secure GPU access years in advance. The political dimension also matters. Asian companies seeking compute may encounter a fragmented global supply chain, with providers tied to specific national or political interests. This could complicate long-term infrastructure planning.
The thing to watch is RUM Group's ability to finance and build the Maysville facility. If RUM fails to secure the necessary GPUs and capital, the $13.7 billion contract value will not materialize. This would force Anthropic to seek compute elsewhere, further tightening global GPU supply for other players, including those in Asia.
