This event explores the challenges and solutions in adapting Large Language Models (LLMs) to Singapore's unique language, culture, and social context. Researchers from A*STAR, SMU, and NUS will share their work on multilingual language models, cultural alignment, controllable Singlish generation, and retrieval-augmented generation. Weihua Zheng (A*STAR) will discuss "Understanding Local Context with AI," focusing on how AI systems can adapt to Singapore's multilingual and multicultural environment through locally grounded datasets and alignment techniques. Liang Jinggui (SMU) will present "Teaching AI to Speak Singlish," detailing an explainable, fine-grained approach to Singlish style transfer for language models.
