    About

Padimai presents "Islands in the Net," a meeting place for Southeast Asian Futures: Everyday life in the age of AI, data and memes. This official opening party on Friday, 17 July, kicks off an exhibition running until 16 November 2026 at Padimai Art & Tech Studio in Singapore. Curated by Kathleen Ditzig, Ryan Ho, and Joshua Comaroff, the exhibition brings together web-based and data-native artworks, archives, and cultural projects. It invites visitors to consider Southeast Asian futures in an age shaped by artificial intelligence, data extraction, and memetic culture, referencing Bruce Sterling’s 1988 novel of the same name. The exhibition revisits Singapore as a node within expanding networks of data and capital, and new economies of intention and influence, offering a space for collective reflection and participation in exploring how technology shapes everyday life in the region. It features works by Heman Chong, Fyerool Darma, Ho Rui An, Weiwei Hsu, MIT’s Cyborg Psychology research group and the Advancing Humans with AI (AHA) research program at the MIT Media Lab, Grace Quek, Bussy Temple, and Ryan Ho with Emotional Technologies Lab. The exhibition functions as a public living room and an evolving program platform where visitors can encounter and contribute to AI-generated future selves, regional histories of cybernetics, living archives, interactive maps, performances, screenings, and artworks that use, generate, and exchange data. Padimai Art & Tech Studio is a Singapore-based artistic laboratory at the intersection of contemporary art, technology, and digital culture, founded and directed by Vignesh Sundaresan (Metakovan).
