China’s CXMT posts massive 870% revenue surge as ‘aggressive expansion’ pays off
Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) reported a significant revenue surge in the first half of the year, its first financial results since a blockbuster Shanghai listing. The company, China’s leading maker of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) products, posted revenue of 150.31 billion yuan (US$22.4 billion) for the six months to June, an 873.64 percent increase year on year. Net profit attributable to shareholders reached 77.61 billion yuan, reversing a loss from the previous year. These results exceeded CXMT’s pre-initial public offering guidance, with revenue about 25 percent higher and attributable profit about 36 percent higher than forecast.
CXMT’s first-half financial results show a strong performance, with revenue of 150.31 billion yuan and a net profit of 77.61 billion yuan. This significantly outpaced its own pre-IPO forecasts, suggesting that China's aggressive push into domestic chip production is yielding tangible commercial success for key players. The company's expansion into newer products like DDR5, which now accounts for 46.3 percent of its main business revenue, is a critical factor in its growth. This reflects a strategic shift towards higher-value memory products used in PCs, workstations, and servers. The most notable development is CXMT’s LPDDR6 chip, now sent to key customers for validation. This move positions a Chinese DRAM maker to compete in the commercialization race for a new LPDDR generation at a similar pace to global industry leaders. The ability to develop and commercialize advanced memory chips at this speed is a direct challenge to established players in South Korea and the US, and it underscores China's ambition to reduce its reliance on foreign technology in critical semiconductor sectors. The thing to watch is how quickly CXMT can scale mass production and secure market share for its LPDDR6 chips against entrenched competitors.
