Toyota GR86 Cup joins 2027 TGR Philippine Cup; All 30 cars reserved
TOYOTA Motor Philippines (TMP) announced the addition of a new racing category, the GR86 One-Make Race (OMR), to its Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup starting in 2027. The series will feature the rear-wheel-drive GR86 sports car, with TMP President Masando Hashimoto making the announcement during a press conference at Clark International Speedway on November 2, 2026.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is expanding its Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup with the introduction of the GR86 One-Make Race (OMR) in 2027. This new category will feature the GR86 sports car, joining the existing Vios Cup and Tamaraw Cup platforms. Unlike the front-wheel-drive Vios or utility-based Tamaraw, the GR86 is designed as a sports car, offering a different driving experience with its rear-wheel-drive layout and 2.4-liter boxer engine.
TMP will offer 30 GR86 race cars in two specifications for the inaugural season: an entry-level Core Cup Car priced at P2.96 million and a Performance Spec at P3.29 million. Both versions include competition safety equipment, but the Performance Spec adds upgrades such as a larger racing brake system, modified exhaust, and upgraded suspension. All 30 allocated cars have already been reserved, indicating strong interest.
A notable aspect of the new series is that both Core Cup and Performance Spec cars will compete in the same racing class. TMP Senior Vice President for Marketing Sherwin Chua-Lim explained this arrangement aims to provide a more affordable entry point for newcomers. Owners of the less expensive Core Cup Car can gradually upgrade their vehicles with approved components to meet the maximum specifications, allowing for phased investment in the sport.
