LG Energy Solution Announces Start of Production at All-New Lansing Battery Plant
LG Energy Solution, a leading battery manufacturer, has commenced production at its new 226-acre facility in Lansing, Michigan. This plant will produce large-format lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells for energy storage systems (ESS) and nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells for electric vehicles, including Toyota’s 2027 Highlander EV. The facility aims for over 35GWh of annual battery-making capacity at full scale and is expected to create up to 1,700 jobs. This expansion strengthens LG Energy Solution’s North American manufacturing footprint and supports the U.S. domestic supply chain for EVs and grid-scale energy storage. The move also reinforces Michigan’s role in the battery manufacturing sector, with LG Energy Solution investing over $2 billion in the Lansing plant since 2022.
