Xiaomi CEO Confirms Separate Launches for Xiaomi 18 Fold and 18 Pro
Xiaomi is preparing for a significant product launch month in September, according to CEO Lei Jun. The company will introduce its SkyNomad family SUV lineup and the Xiaomi 18 Fold, powered by the new XRING O3 chip. This chip reportedly achieved over 5 million points on AnTuTu, making it the first smartphone chip to cross this benchmark. The XRING O3 is built on a 3nm process and contains 24 billion transistors. Later in September, Xiaomi plans to launch the 18 Pro series, which will feature the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, manufactured using a 2nm process.
Xiaomi’s aggressive September launch schedule, featuring both its new XRING O3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips, points to a determined push for market share in Asia’s high-end smartphone and emerging EV sectors. The XRING O3, a 3nm chip with a reported AnTuTu score of 5.22 million, demonstrates Xiaomi’s internal silicon capabilities. This move allows the company to control more of its hardware stack, potentially reducing reliance on external suppliers and optimizing performance for its devices like the Xiaomi 18 Fold. The subsequent launch of the 18 Pro series with Qualcomm’s 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip highlights a dual-pronged strategy. Xiaomi is not only investing in its own chip development but also securing access to cutting-edge external technology. The shift to a 2nm process for the Snapdragon chip is expected to deliver significant performance and power efficiency gains, critical for competitive advantage in premium smartphone markets across Asia. The simultaneous introduction of the SkyNomad SUV also signals Xiaomi’s broader ambition to diversify its tech ecosystem beyond traditional consumer electronics, a trend many Asian tech giants are exploring.
