Vietnam Fines Grab US$52,000 Over Data and Disclosure Failures
Grab has been fined VND 1.36 billion (approximately US$52,000) in Vietnam for multiple breaches of consumer protection regulations. Vietnam’s National Competition Commission imposed the penalty after identifying six violations, including failures in obtaining proper data consent from users and issues with the company’s general terms and conditions. The ride-hailing and delivery giant was also cited for not adequately disclosing influencer sponsorships and for providing incomplete or inaccurate displays of consumer feedback. Additionally, Grab failed to make information on mechanisms and policies for vulnerable consumers sufficiently accessible. The commission has directed Grab to rectify these breaches and review its consumer-facing policies for full compliance, with Grab reporting that it has already addressed the violations and paid the fine.
