RTX Spark impressions: NVIDIA finally brings RTX gaming and local AI to Windows on Arm
NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform, integrating an Arm-based Grace CPU with a Blackwell GPU and unified memory, is now available on Windows on Arm devices. An early review of the ASUS ProArt P16 found the platform capable of handling creative work, local AI models, and PC gaming, with initial tests showing stable performance in demanding games.
RTX Spark marks NVIDIA's entry into the Windows on Arm ecosystem, introducing its graphics technologies, including Blackwell, CUDA, ray tracing, and DLSS 5. This contrasts with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite series, which initially brought Windows on Arm to a wider audience with a focus on everyday computing, battery life, and on-device AI. RTX Spark shifts this emphasis towards high-performance graphics and local AI model processing.
The platform's unified memory architecture, which combines CPU and GPU memory, is a design approach also seen in Apple's M-series chips and AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ series. However, RTX Spark distinguishes itself by pairing an Arm CPU with NVIDIA's dedicated graphics capabilities, offering a different blend of hardware and software for Windows laptops compared to Apple's integrated ecosystem or AMD's x86-based alternatives.
The introduction of RTX Spark could encourage wider software and game support for Windows on Arm. While the platform's focus differs from Snapdragon X Elite, suggesting they target distinct user priorities rather than one superseding the other, NVIDIA's presence expands the range of high-performance options within the Arm-based Windows environment. This could make advanced local AI and demanding gaming more accessible on these systems.
