Former OpenAI researcher Yonglong Tian named Tencent Hunyuan multimodal head
Yonglong Tian, a former OpenAI researcher, has been appointed head of multimodal models for Tencent’s Hunyuan team. He joined Tencent in July and now reports directly to Shunyu Yao, who oversees the company’s foundation-model development. Tian’s background includes work on computer vision, representation learning, and generative models at Google Research, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI. This appointment follows Tencent’s decision in July to consolidate its large-language-model and multimodal-model teams into a single foundation-model department under Shunyu Yao.
