Barcelona-based Titan OS, a smart TV operating system maker, has raised $46 million in new funding, consisting of both equity and debt. This round brings its total funding to $110 million. The company announced plans to pursue ambitious expansion and partnerships, focusing on its ad-supported monetization model for television manufacturers.

Titan OS provides an operating system for smart TVs, enabling manufacturers to generate revenue through Free Ad-supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels and advertisements displayed on different screens. This approach offers a potential income stream for TV makers after the initial sale of units. The company has grown its user base from 18 million to 30 million and has added partners including Sharp, AOC, Vestel, and Skyworth, building on existing relationships with Philips, TiVo, and Tubi.

A significant development is Philips' decision to adopt Titan OS, replacing Google TV for its 2026 TV models. This move reflects a reported financial pressure on hardware manufacturers. Hyoung-Ung Kim, Titan OS's CFO, noted that the television hardware industry is not highly profitable and that rising chip costs, partly attributed to the AI boom, have led manufacturers to reinforce partnerships that offer revenue-sharing models.

Titan OS differentiates itself by not having its own content offerings, presenting itself as an impartial platform for content discovery. The company is investing in interface adjustments and AI to improve how users find content, aiming to reduce search times. Additionally, AI is being utilized to refine ad recommendations and segmentation, which is central to its monetization strategy across its network and through partner extensions. The recent funding is allocated to support this ambitious expansion into new geographies and to forge more partnerships.
