Enflame’s US$900m IPO tests appetite for China’s ‘little dragon’ AI chipmakers
Enflame Technology is pursuing a 6.12 billion yuan (US$910.3 million) initial public offering on Shanghai's Star Market. The Chinese AI chipmaker aims to issue 43.04 million shares at 142.18 yuan (US$21.15) apiece, with subscriptions opening this week. The move tests investor confidence in specialised hardware, particularly as the company faces competition from Huawei Technologies and seeks to reduce its revenue dependence on Tencent Holdings. This IPO follows other significant debuts in the sector, including Moore Threads' 8 billion yuan Star Market launch in December.
Enflame Technology's US$910.3 million IPO on Shanghai's Star Market is a key test for China's AI chip sector, which is benefiting from Beijing's push for technological self-sufficiency. The company's strategy of focusing on specialised chips, an advanced evolution of application-specific integrated circuits (DSA), aims to maximise computing efficiency for targeted AI tasks. This approach is critical for China's broader AI infrastructure buildout. The challenge for Enflame, however, lies in convincing investors that its niche can withstand intense domestic competition from established players like Huawei Technologies. Furthermore, the company's heavy reliance on Tencent Holdings for revenue presents a significant risk. The success of this IPO will indicate investor appetite for specialised AI hardware in a competitive market, particularly for firms needing to diversify their client base beyond major backers.
